The Listening Mothers Experience
“As we grow and understand ourselves we can offer a foundation of emotional
well-being and security that enables our children to thrive" --Daniel J. Siegel
Listening Mothers: Growth and Connection

"At the Listening mothers program, in the supportive environment of the group, the moms gain more confidence in their ability
to mother, and are learning to trust their intuition in responding to their baby. As they grow to understand themselves and their
babies better through our group discussions, they can offer a foundation for emotional security in which their baby can thrive."
--Yaffa Maritz, Co-Founder, Listening Mothers
Our Curriculum:  Mothers and Babies Come Together

We highlight six areas of growth in the context of a small group experience led by a highly qualified facilitator:

Clarity
Develop your  identity as a mother and discuss your feelings about this role.
Insight
Strengthen your emotional bond with your child as you explore your thoughts and feelings about your baby and motherhood.
Awareness
Look into your childhood experiences and how they impact your parenting
Confidence
Learn how to tune into and respond to your baby's needs.  Help your baby feel calm and interested in his/her world.
Knowledge
Talk about how your relationship with your partner affects the baby and how your baby impacts your relationship
Understanding
Learn how baby's primary relationships and experience set the foundation for early learning
Our Origins:

The pilot program for Listening Mothers was established by Diana Mandel in 1994
at Redmond Pediatrics with the full support of Dr.Jack Lynch.
Diana is still facilitating a prototype of the Listening Mothers group in
Redmond Pediatrics and has been an on going mentor for the Listening Mothers Program.

Listening Mothers provides facilitated discussions in
that motherhood brings. By becoming more attuned to
themselves and their babies, Moms learn during the
eight week group how to uniquely engage and
emotionally stimulate their baby. Extensive research
has shown that this process helps to further a baby's
cognitive, emotional, and social intelligence
.

The Listening Mothers groups meet once per week over an 8-week period.
Each meeting lasts for one-and-a-half hours and we have groups located
throughout the Greater Seattle Area.
